Health and Physical Education is part of the school curriculum for all year levels at Raceview State School, with students receiving 1 x 60 minute lesson a week conducted by a specialist PE Teacher. The Health and Physical Education Program is year level and age appropriate and covers fundamental movement/gross motor skills with a focus on a variety of individual and team sports.  Major events on our HPE calendar include the annual Junior and Senior Track and Field carnival in Term 2/3 and the Interhouse Swimming Carnival held in Term 1.

Raceview State School prides itself on providing high quality sporting opportunities for our students during both Health and Physical Education lessons and interschool sporting activities. We are proud of our sporting history and our reputation in the community with regards to sportsmanship, skill and school spirit is second to none. This has been achieved through a passion for our students and their sporting endeavours, promoting high standards for behaviour and through the hard work and dedication of our amazing staff.

SWIMMING

Raceview State School conducts half hour swimming lessons for Years 2 – 6 (Term One) and Prep – 6 (Term Four) during Physical Education lessons. Swimming lessons are delivered by our Physical Education Teacher (Austswim accredited instructor). The school pool is located within the school grounds.
Permission notes are handed out at the beginning of the year and this includes a timetable for lessons. Parents are encouraged to come and watch their child’s lessons.
The Raceview State School swimming carnival is held in Term One each year. There are two carnivals for the year catering for the Seniors, (9 – 13 Years Olds) and Juniors (Years 1-3).
The school awards age champion and runner-up awards, overall champion house, house spirit awards and often send swimmers onto District and Regional swimming trials.

TRACK & FIELD

One of the other main components of the HPE Curriculum is Athletics in term 2, with all students learning the fundamentals of throws (discus and shot put), jumps (long jump and high jump) and running events (sprints and middle distance). These skills are put into practice during the Raceview State School Track and Field carnivals. Senior school students (Age 9 – 13 Years) participate in the Senior Carnival program which consists of a field events trial week, 800m finals and main Senior Sports Day where students participate in 100m, 200m and relay events.
We also hold a Junior Sports Day where students in Prep – Year 3 participate in sprint races, tunnel ball challenge, rotational activities and relays.

IPSWICH DISTRICT SCHOOL SPORT TRIALS

Students aged 10 to 12 who qualify at our school Athletics and Swimming carnivals will be invited to represent the school at the Ipswich District trials. Representative trials for District Teams are held throughout the year.  Interested students (aged 10-12 years) need to contact the Health and Physical Education Teacher; Bryan Marshall for trials information.

Trials are advertised heavily through school newsletter, Facebook, and during HPE Classes. Students who meet the skill and age requirements will be given paperwork to attend these District trials. These trials are a pathway for further higher honours at a regional and state level.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION LESSONS

Students are required to wear our sun safe Raceview State School hat during Physical Education lessons.  Students that do not have a hat will participate in alternate activities in a shaded area. Students who are unable to participate in Physical Education lessons due to illness or injury should provide a note of explanation.
