NAPLAN The National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy is a national assessment for all students in years 3, 5, 7 & 9. The tests are taken every year in the second full week in May. Students in these year levels participate in tests of Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) and Numeracy.
NAPLAN assesses foundational literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the Australian Curriculum. Teachers familiarise students with the test formats, giving them experience in answering the types of questions involved. Sample questions and a sample writing task are available at: http://www.nap.edu.au/naplan/the-tests.
If you have any questions about the NAPLAN tests, make an appointment to speak with your child’s class teacher. The best way to help your child prepare for NAPLAN is to encourage them to do the best that they can on the day.
Further information regarding NAPLAN can be found on the NAPLAN and ACARA websites: National Assessment Program and Australian Curriculum And Reporting Authority (ACARA)
